Art that embodies movement, texture, and sensitivity.
Perpetually in flux, my relationship with alcohol inks and resin is both meditative and challenging, and painting with these mediums is a creative process that cultivates patience and encourages letting go of control.
The result is a piece that comes alive as something soulful, organic, and free.
Resin
“Amore”
There are a thousand ways in which the world reminds us of tender love. My eyes find it in how a piece of rose quartz cradles the morning light, or how the tightly armored bud of a peony finally surrenders, unfurling to be fully seen. I am softened when I lie below pastel pink spires and walls, cloud castles and kingdoms, the type of sunset you only see deep in the mountains with your lover at your side.
“Shinrin-Yoku”
There is healing that happens in a forest dripping with sunlight, below the sway of elder trees, with the smell of sweet earth and decomposing leaves softened beneath your feet.
In Japanese, “Shinrin-Yoku” translates to Forest Bathing, a deeply therapeutic practice of immersing oneself in the atmosphere of the forest.
“Oceanic”
Foraged shells and fossilized shark teeth are delightful details in this large piece that explores oceanic depth and mystery.
“Aura”
Your aura reminds me of a rainbow.
The surfacing of a rainbow after heavy storms is an anchoring of hope. Hold on. The clouds will break, cracking your heart wide open to showcase its beautiful ways of surviving and rooting amidst the shifting seasons. Your rainbow will appear, a beacon of resiliency.
“Naiad”
Naiad comes from the Greek word naiein, meaning “to flow.” Rooted in Greek mythology, Naiads were nymphs of freshwater bodies like springs, rivers, lakes, and fountains. These spirits remind us of reciprocity, the honoring and caretaking of our delicate and vital relationship to nature and her sacred resources.
“Below the Surface”
I get lost, and deeply dreamy, when my eyes dive into the aquatic folds of this piece. I find myself immersed below the surface of oceanic waves, ribbons of bubbles swirling like stars, breaking the surface. Suspended in the heart of the reef, crepuscular rays pierce the dark waters, illuminating the caverns and keyholes of a coral castle. There is magic in dancing between two worlds, air and water. There is the reminder to dive down, to brave the abyss, to revel at what you might find.
“Haven”
Do you remember the places, people, and things that offered you reprieve, the ones that gave a place for your soul to rest? Maybe you exhaled at the way the morning sun caught the petals of your garden. Perhaps, it was remembering the medicine in play as you blew bubbles, watching them float like dreams into the sky.
Haven is a place of remembering, creating, resting, exploring.
